TRAVEL review website TripAdvisor has named the top 25 hotels worldwide and around Australia, based on the opinions of millions of travellers globally. Queensland hotels featured prominently in the list of the nation’s best stays, scoring 12 of the top 25 spots. Popular holiday spots Port Douglas and Airlie Beach seem to be the places to go for great accommodation, scoring four places each on the list.

The Akama Resort at Hervey Bay was named Australia's best hotel due to its “first-class facilities and management”, while the Southern Ocean Lodge at Kangaroo Island came in at number two and the Martinique on Macrossan at Port Douglas was named third best. However Australian hotels failed to make TripAdvisor’s list of the world’s top 25 hotels, which named the Phoenix Resort in San Pedro, Belize, central America, as number one. There were also separate categories for the best hotels in the world for luxury, relaxation, trendy and service.
The Langham Melbourne made it to number 11 in the luxury category while the Arajilla Retreat at Lord Howe Island scraped in at number 24 for relaxation. Meanwhile the Art Series - The Cullen in Prahran was number nine in the trendy category and the Paradise Bay Eco Escape at Long Island made it to number 18 on the best service category.
